2019 - where to go?

Started over my daily stoic readings...interesting that the book begins with the Serenity Prayer..one that I've come to live by after the last year.    For this year, that seems like a good way to start every day, not just how to end therapy.

Some things to focus on...could argue this is not just for 2019, but all the time.
Self
Family
Community

Think:
- Maintain 1 hr per day of reflection - read, write...give in to the FB draw, but limit to 30 min/per day
- Finish books
Love:
- Give my bride 30 min of listening every night
- Laugh as much as possible
- Talk to my children like the adults they are
- Enjoy my grandkids as much as possible
- Find ways to commune, build friends network
Play:
- Pick up the guitar daily for 10 min...increase to 15 min by the end of the year
- Push beyond my comfort zone in the gym - be true to CF principles - spend an extra 30 min on accessory work
Work:
- Relish my last full year on Active Duty - change what defines me beyond the Air Force.
- Optimize my cadre's opportunity to thrive
- Recruit, identify, develop leaders of character that will replace me
- Give 1 hr a week to transition...increase to 2 hrs by the fall
Maintain:
- Give over 30 min a day to housework
- Love the earth, at least the yard

A rainy Saturday with much to contemplate.  How best to take care of cadets in crisis without inadvertently destroying their careers.  The constant pull of things left undone.  The struggle to maintain fitness and move the scale down without destroying my joints.  And trying to balance the needs of today without sacrificing preparation for tomorrow.  Always the nagging feeling that there is something more important to accomplish, but not having the discipline to execute.  At the end of it all, just getting up and putting one foot in front of the other.
For now, just trying to enjoy the afternoon with the bride and an evening with my Air Force weather colleagues at our annual holiday party.

Disgust with the media

After hearing that two of our heroes where cut down in cold blood in Frankfurt, the fact that it did not even make the headlines for the network news makes me sad and angry.  Instead, news of the Supreme Court affirming free speech to the folks picketing military funerals with hate speech.  The attack was 10 seconds as the ninth story. Something is wrong here.

Spring

What a beautiful day. Warm enough to run without being wrapped in layers. Calm enough to clean up the downed branches from the weeks storms (using my new chain saw!). Quiet enough to enjoy a few movies with the family. A busy week ahead, but ready to tackle the line.
